Maesarieng

We stopped off in Mae sariang for some r and r, and rented a room overlooking the river

The children had a spaghetti dinner with an apple and brownie I had driven the tomato sauce and apples up to maehongson traveling through pai and 1870 turns as I wound my way around mountains. Then the three hour drive on muddy roads, slipping and sliding along the way

Here are pictures of the mountains

And rutted roads

The children and their teachers are wonderful. The kids are well behaved and the teachers are totally dedicated, this is white Karen hill tribe territory, they were here before their were borders. The pictures cannot describe the beauty and natural rhythm that flows through the area. Vehicles pick folks up along the way to deliver them although i saw few other trucks coming or going.
There is only a generator to create electricity, the country of Belgium donated a 3500 watt solar system to another school and we hope to help in any way I can.

Heading to Maehongson with toysforthailand

We rented a 4x4 and we are making our way to a remote hill tribe school down a muddy dirt road to deliver 300 apples and a spaghetti dinner to 250 students, they had originally asked for KFC, a major US export next to Macdonald's and wars, but Sasha turned them down and they will get Italian instead. It should be an interesting trip with my friend Vicki in tow, she just left a week in and elephant camp. Sorry no pictures right now but please be patient. Thanks Joe

Another day another airport

Well I am leaving Bangkok and I am trying to figure out how to put pictures on the blog via my ipad, one more thing to suss out. I have been reading a few books that I downloaded and enjoying my relaxing stay, and stress reduction in a 5 star hotel in bangkok, the gym was awesome and it was great to start working up a sweat again. My stay with my daughter was wonderful, she had time to play host to me before her classes to be a substitute teacher at the high school in puna.
Her husband is rebuilding a house for the wonderful Nicole whom I had the pleasure of meeting along with Angela, her love. They are a great combination of Heart and Mind. Great fun, I think that one of my great joys is to meet people who are unique and bright and fun, a great conversation is like the nectar of the gods at this time in my life.

Here are some pictures from my trip to Hawaii, there will be more posted about Bangkok when Vicki, gives me the wonderful photos that she took at Wat Po and the grand palace.

Sitting in portland

Waiting for a plane. I think I finally decided what I am going to be when I grow up. I have amassed 19000 photos so it would seem I like photography and I am awestruck by all of the beauty that this world has to offer. I seem to be a bit footloose. I am going to apply myself to nature and travel photography. To that end I will be getting serious about the art.

Back from vermont and packing for my next adventure

It was really great traveling in the country and visiting my good friends Mike John and Dee, up in Pownal Vt, They were kind enough to let me park my RV at their storage facility and I may get their 5th wheel House on Wheels. It is spacious and I could disconnect the truck from the 5th wheel and use it to do chores. Well off to pack now and here are a few pictures fr your pleasure.

Time is slipping

As I get closer to the date when I will leave NYC and start my journey back to Thailand, I find myself a little out of sorts, too early to pack and anxious to leave, I will be visiting Bend Oregon and my friends Jack and Grace and Pahoa Hawaii to see my Jenny and this will take three weeks, I really miss my friends, having two homes half a world apart is a different experience than I have had in most of my life. I feel as though my time in NYC has past yet I am still holding on to my apartment until it is decided what path we will take in the next incantation of our coop existence and I can move on. I dream of traveling the west coast's beautiful regions and taking my time in getting to know places that I skimmed through, much like a book, where you can savor and just nestle into the peace and beauty. Well I am going to get going early this morning and try to find some sunshine and mountains to hike a little, unfortunately it will be wet wherever I do. Maybe I will just stop in Woodstock and Marysville and take the slow route up to Vermont. If I get to Adams Mass by 4 I can partake in a charity spaghetti dinner, Yum.......

Wearing and seeing Red

I went down with my Union to pay a visit to Wall Street and ask them why they aren't in jail, well they are too big to jail or fail and the only thing that you can do with them is bail. The arrogance and audacity is almost pungent on the street. The cops worship them but we are the ones who pay for the services of the police, the corporations and banks have armies of accountants to avoid paying their share of the bill.

Back on track

Well the computer is back from the shop and I have been busy getting ready for my next trip. which will be Bend, Oregon> Pahoa, Hawaii> Chiang Mai,Thailand. My feelings toward New York are mixed, I have had fun here but feel a bit confined, the picture of the young couple in tux and bridal gown with bouquet on the bench beside the bride looking at the first picture of their new life together was my best of the day. I will try to crop it and put it in my next blog. I will be taking a trip next week to put the Wandermobile away for the year and do some hiking in the catskills. I will be posting pictures along the way and working on refining this blogging game, I have plenty of books to read and it should be fun.

thought for the day

My favorite quote is "Life is too short to be little," written by Disraeli… Often we allow ourselves to be upset by small things we should ignore and forget. We lose many irreplaceable hours brooding over grievances that, in a year's time, will be forgotten by us and by everybody. No, let us devote our life to worthwhile actions and feelings, to great thoughts, real affections and enduring undertakings. Andre Maurois

lost iphone

It seems there was a transfer of wealth, my phone was lifted by someone slick from someone slow. Not to be found, the find my iphone app didn't work so I guess they took out the sim card, I have to get a lanyard and put it around my neck, better yet keep it in a zippered pocket, one of the things that I don' like abotu the city is the bike thieves and their ilk, I have about 60 pounds of locks on my bike. In Chiang Mai, My wallet fell out of my pocket and 3 young people came up on their bike and gave it to me. I had a thousand dollars in it, they would not take a reward. different cultures I guess.
